Steer In offers good food, fresh from our farm; grown by us, harvested and prepared by us and served up fast with friendly service. This is our culture, in the truest sense of the word.

We are the Van Vleet family: Dennis, a 5th generation dairy farmer. Lea, a rancher’s daughter. Stacy, a hard working FFA officer. Jessica, servant’s heart. Allison, a free spirit. And, McCormick, an automation engineer.

We have returned to farming after 27 years in the industrial and service industries. But this time we’re doing it different! Rather than scale up to feed the world, we’ve scaled down to feed our community. We are using regenerative agriculture practices.

Farming in this way, on a smaller, more sane and more enjoyable scale has innumerable benefits like less concentration, healthier animals, better soil, lower stress and greater contentment just to name a few. And, unlike industrial farming which requires turning the farm into a factory, we have separated the farm from the factory and placed the efficiencies of our professional experience into our food business. In this way, we are able to offer the very best from our farm, directly to our community. Not just our food but ourselves. Good food fresh from good farming, served up fast with a friendly smile.

This journey home did not happen overnight. After responding to the challenge to “eat responsibly” we realized just how hard that was. A trip to the farmers market for steaks created a relationship with a local farmer. Those steaks turned into a half order of beef then a whole. Eventually it turned us back into farmers.

Once the whole concept of regenerative, smaller and local agriculture finally clicked with us, we wanted to change the world! But the world, it turns out, is moving so fast, with so much momentum that it’s really hard to change. We’re not asking the world to change, we’re asking our community. Eat here and eat responsibly.
